| VOLUNTEER POSITIONS Supporting
the community through service and education are key components
of the O’Neill Sea Odyssey Program. Our students benefit
from the experience of volunteer work and become more involved
with their local environment in order to earn their way into
the program. We at O’Neill Sea Odyssey would like to
continue to connect with local citizens by offering intermittent
volunteer positions in the following areas:
Quarterly Sea Odyssey news letter mailings
Four times a year, the Sea Odyssey staff needs assistance
with the mass mailing of our quarterly newsletter. Duties
include affixing mailing labels, stuffing, and organizing
the pieces for bulk mail.
Fundraising Events
These positions usually include working with the crew and
staff of O’Neill Sea Odyssey on all aspects event coordination.
We frequently need help with invitation mailings, obtain donations
of items, pre-party set up, volunteer wait staff, transportation
of supplies and post-party breakdown and cleanup.
Assembly of Teacher’s Packet
Before each group participates in the O’Neill Sea Odyssey
program, each teacher or group leader is given a booklet containing
curriculum information, exercises and activities in order
to help the class prepare for the trip. Photocopying, assembling
and binding the teacher’s packets before the school
year is an excellent opportunity for volunteers to lend a
hand while becoming familiar with our curriculum.
Miscellaneous office and classroom organization
Our Education Center in the Santa Cruz Harbor is heavily
used by thousands of students during the program. Periodically
the staff of O’Neill Sea Odyssey needs volunteers to
help us give the Education Center some TLC. Duties include
painting, cleaning, hanging pictures and visual aids, laundering
towels and equipment maintenance.
